Lt Gen Nadeem has unique experience in managing both large-scale natural disasters and complex emergency situations. Following the 2005 earthquake, as Chief Military Coordinator at the Federal Relief Commission, he strategized, and implemented the earthquake relief operations for both civil and military agencies in close synchronization with the donor community, United Nations, humanitarian agencies and foreign militaries. As Deputy Chairman of Earthquake Reconstruction & Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA), he was responsible for rehabilitation and reconstruction of the earthquake-affected region which is recognized to be one of the most successful reconstruction programs in the world.
From 2009-10 he served as Chairman of the Special Support Group where he helped 3.2 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) resulting in their safe return within a short period of six months.
In 2010, he was appointed as Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). During his stay at the NDMA, he managed the massive 2010 Pakistan floods relief operation that left vast regions of Pakistan devastated, affecting over 20 million people. With his exceptional leadership skills he created a well-conceived and coordinated response to ensure aid effectiveness for the benefit of the affected population.
Lieutenant General Nadeem Ahmed is a recipient of many national civil and military awards including Hilal-e-lmtiaz and Tamgha-e-Bisalat for military services and the Sitara-e-Eissar and Shah-e-Hamadan Gold Medal by Azad Kashmir Government for his outstanding contribution in reconstruction and rehabilitation after the 2005 Earthquake. In 2007 he was also awarded the prestigious UN-HABITAT Scroll of Honor in recognition of his leadership and compassion in the face of calamity while helping millions of affected people.
He holds Masters Degrees in War Studies from the National Defense University, Islamabad; and in Strategic Studies from US Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, PA, United States. In July 2010, the University of Huddersfield, UK awarded him Honorary Doctorate in recognition of his exceptional work in the field of Disaster Management.
He was appointed as Managing Director/CEO of Mari Petroleum Company Limited on 26 January 2014.
